WALLINGFORD - Michael Swift's safe driving is taking him to Ohio. Swift, a trucker for J.R Christoni, has been named the 1996 Connecticut Driver of the Year in the flatbed truck division. He finished first at the Connecticut Driving Championships on June 8 at the East Hartford Plaza on Route 5 in East Hartford.
Steve Gale, operations manager at J.R. Christoni, joked that the honor has inflated Swift's ego. "His head is so big he's having trouble fitting through the door of his truck," he said. "But we're quite proud of him. This is what we look for in our drivers."
With the win, Swift is eligible to compete in the national driving championships August 21 to 24, 1996 in Columbus Ohio.
